Apart from supplementing the local livelihoods through provision of water, fuelwood and other necessities, the forest offers an excellent opportunity for other services, such as eco-tourism through bird-watching and camping. Kereita forest in particular presents magnificent sceneries including waterfalls, bat-roosting caves, cliffs, elephant salt-licks and delivery site (fondly referred to as “maternity ward” by local peoples), mysterious bubbling (spring) water and outlooks with excellent views of the forest canopy, the Rift Valley, Mt. Kenya and the rest of the Aberdare range.
Guides: KENVO members offer professional guiding services to visitors for hiking, sightseeing and bird watching in the forest. Members can also organize safaris and hikes to Mt. Longonot and surrounding national parks and game reserves such as Hell’s Gate.
