Yet, pollution threatens its value to the community.Today, for the Mazingira Day 2026, Kijabe Environment Volunteers - KENVO, Nature Kenya-the EANHS, Gitwe women lead Group, and local youth came together for a community clean-up activity to protect this vital resource and remind us that conservation begins when we take responsibility for the environment around us.We thank Nature Kenya for supporting this initiative and the community members who showed up in large numbers to make a difference. Today marks a major milestone in our landscape restoration journey as Kijabe Environment Volunteers - KENVO , in partnership with North Kinangop Community Forest Association (NOKICOFA) and Lake Naivasha Basin Water Resources Users Association ( Lanabwrua ), officially launches tree planting activities under the TerraFund for AFR100 Cohort 3 Project. Through this initiative, we aim to grow 225,000 trees across farmlands, riparian areas and degraded forest sites, while reaching over 2,300 beneficiaries.But this project goes beyond planting trees!It also seeks to strengthen community livelihoods and promote sustainable environmental practices through:🐝 Beekeeping: Supporting trained community members with beehives, beekeeping equipment and protective kits to establish and grow their beekeeping enterprises.🔥 Energy-saving cookstoves (jikos): Providing beneficiaries with energy-efficient cooking solutions to help reduce reliance on firewood and ease pressure on forest resources.These interventions build on capacity-building and training activities that have been ongoing since January 2026 and will continue beyond today's launch, ensuring communities are equipped with the knowledge and skills to sustain these initiatives.The project is funded by Vumbuzi Impact Africa (VIA) Foundation andWorld Resources Instituteitute (WRI) under the TerraFund for AFR100 initiative.Growing trees. Sometimes, you don’t have to travel far to see how far your work has reached.Yesterday, KENVO welcomed two visitors from the Ministry of Environment-MECCNAR of The Gambia, accompanied by their two Kenyan trainers, for a learning visit to our Resource Centre.Their curiosity was infectious! They were eager to understand how KENVO turns ideas into action, working with communities on forest restoration, environmental education, community development, youth engagement, and other conservation initiatives.They were also curious about how our small team of full-time staff manages to coordinate such diverse activities and keep community-led projects moving on the ground.By the end of the day, it was rewarding to see their satisfaction and appreciation for the work they had learned about at KENVO and the community-led approach behind it.For us, it was more than a visit.
